Exam Instructions

CHOICE BASED CREDIT SYSTEM

The College adopted Credit System in 2008-2009 onwards, the positive experiences of this system and its wholehearted acceptance by all the stakeholders, boosted the college to adopt the Choice-Based Credit System (CBCS). Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) is followed with a view to equip the students with the multi-disciplinary and multi-tasking skills.

SALIENT FEATURES OF CBCS

A few salient features of the CBCS are:

  • This is a uniform CBCS for all central and state and other recognized universities
  • There are three main courses: Core, Elective and Foundation
  • The CBCS provides cafeteria approach in which the students can choose courses of their own choice.
  • The credit system allows a student to study what he prefers in his own sequence as per his interest.
  • Besides major and allied subjects, new subjects in the name of generic elective subjects are offered.
  • Scope for field/project work, study tours, industrial visits, in-plant training.
  • Skill & Ability enhancement courses, online course, Extra Departmental Courses and Add-on courses form as part of the curriculum.
  • To provide value and ethical based education, participation in Sports/NSS/extension activities are made compulsory.

The hall ticket for the semester examination would be made available in the official website of Madurai Kamaraj University. The hall ticket can be downloaded by all students, deemed to be eligible for appearance. The hall ticket would comprise of the following information such as the Candidate Name, register number, Course code, Subject Code, Centre code and photography of a student for which they would be appearing for in the examination. Any discrepancy in downloading the hall ticket or evident flaws in the content can be guided for clarification from the Controller of Examination Cell at the college.

Evaluation System

At Present the College follows 25:75 pattern for UG & PG (25 marks for continuous assessment and 75 marks for comprehensive examinations). Under CA system, the student is continuously assessed by the faculty members concerned through periodical tests, assignments, quiz, etc. The student must get a minimum of 27 marks (35%) in CE and 40 marks (40%) in CE and CA put together at UG level and 34 marks (45%) in CE and 50 marks (50%) in CE and CA put together at PG level.

Provision to Retotal the Answer Books

Candidates who are desirous of having their answer books retotalled shall apply to the Controller of Examinations, Madurai Kamaraj University, Madurai – 22, remitting the sum prescribed per answer book within 10 calendar days from the date of publication of results. Where the marks obtained in retotaling are higher than the marks awarded earlier, the Controller of Examinations will issue the revised mark sheet after withdrawing the previous one.

Provision to Apply for Revaluation of Comprehensive Examination Marks

Candidates who are desirous of having their answer books revalued shall apply to the Controller of Examinations, Madurai Kamaraj University, Madurai – 22, remitting the sum prescribed per answer book within 15 calendar days from the date of publication of results. Where the marks awarded in the revaluation are higher than the marks awarded earlier, the Controller of Examinations will issue the revised mark sheet after withdrawing the previous one.

Forms

System of “Transparency in Examination”

In this system, ‘Photo Copies’ of valued answer scripts will be furnished to the students on their request. Students by remitting the prescribed fees shall apply within 8 calendar days from the date of publication of results. Students who applied for transparency will be asked to collect photo copies of valued answer scripts will be furnished to the students. Students shall scrutinize the same. Subject experts will be there to clear the doubts if any. After scrutiny, if they want their scripts to be revalued, they shall apply for the same within 3 calendar days.

Supplementary Examination

To provide an opportunity to the final UG, PG and Add-on career-oriented course students to complete their programmes in the same year itself and to help them for vertical mobility, additional supplementary comprehensive examination is conducted in June every year in the final semester subjects.

Continuous Assessment & Comprehensive Exam

Continuous assessment (CA) – tests, assignments, seminars etc. – constitute the CA part – periodical assessment by respective Departments and

Comprehensive examination (CE) – assessment through end- semester examinations by internal and external examiners.

  • Obtaining photo copy of answer script under Transparency in Examination system. Students can access their examination results through university website.

Certificates

Provisional Certificate

The Madurai Kamaraj University is the authority to issue Consolidated mark sheets, Provisional Certificates and Degree certificates to the candidates who have completed their respective programmes at our College. The College will send the student details who are appearing examination, the university after publishing the results students who have qualified for award of certificates send by the Madurai Kamaraj University to the respective colleges. The Candidates need not apply to the University directly to get Provisional certificates. The candidates shall collect their Provisional Certificates from the college office directly, as and when they are received from the Madurai Kamaraj University.

Procedure to be adopted to get Duplicate Mark statement / Consolidated Statement of Marks

Candidates requiring Duplicate Marksheet or Consolidated Statement of marks shall down load the prescribed form and apply to the Controller of Examinations, Madurai Kamaraj University, Madurai.

Duplicate Marksheets will be issued only when it is lost or destroyed irrecoverably.

The prescribed forms shall be filled-in only by the candidate.  It shall be complete in every respect.  Failure will cause delay in issue of the Duplicate Mark statement.

The filled in form shall be submitted along with a FIR Copy/Non traceable Certificate issued by the Police Department.

Fees prescribed for issue of each Duplicate Mark statement / Consolidated Statement of Marks / Provisional / Degree certificates by the university.  Search fee has to be paid by candidates who have completed their programmes before two years from date of application for duplicate certificate.

Guidelines for Exams

  • All Comprehensive examinations (theory & practical) are conducted twice a year in November/December and in April/May.
  • Additional Supplementary Examinations are conducted in June every year.
  • Comprehensive examinations are conducted after 90 working days in each semester.

  • 75% of attendance is compulsory to sit for Comprehensive Examinations.
  • No leave will be granted during monthly tests and model Examinations, which are mandatory. Absence will be viewed seriously and may have a bearing in the assessment of student’s conduct.
  • Any malpractice in the examination hall will be dealt with seriously, leading to suspension and dismissal from the college.
  • Students with less than 75% attendance will have to pay a condonation fee to the Madurai Kamaraj University. Those with less than 50% of attendance must reappear the semester after the sixth semester.
  • Students having a minimum of 75% of attendance in the practical classes alone will be eligible to submit record note books and appear for both CA & CE practical examinations. Students shall be permitted to appear for the practical examinations only with the submission of bonafide records.
  • Examination dates are announced sufficient early and are followed strictly.
  • Students can access Examination Time Table in College Website.
  • Facilities are provided for students to pay examination fees through online.
  • Students can download hall tickets from the university website. and access seating plan for every day examination through online in the college web site.
  • UG students can write Comprehensive Examinations in English or in Tamil.
  • Students desire to write examination in Tamil medium, shall submit a letter to that effect to the Controller of Examinations, well in advance.
